Cheap Sword 2
Wakizashi no-signature by shortening work (O-suriage)
Blade length 51.8cm, thickness at the base 7mm, width 2.7cm
This is a good wakizashi blade. It has no signature because of shortening
work. It looks nice blade from 14th century or so, but sadly one side (omote
side) of the blade surface has marks of rust.
Steel is fine with visible wood grain layer pattern. Unfortunately the
omote side, especially lower half of the blade, has many marks of rust.
Hamon is made of small particles (ko-nie). The temper line (particle band)
is neat and tight. Hamon in kissaki became narrow by wearing. Utsuri also
appears.
Sketch of the hamon in kissaki
The polishing work is old. So it has some scratches on its surface. But
still it is good enough to study the blade. Unfortunately the omote side
has marks of rust. So, it is difficult to study the details on that side.
The whole taste of the blade reminds us ko-Mihara school.
Tang
The manner of the shortening work is quite proper.
Habaki is gold foiled double. It suggests that the blade was treated as
a treasure back then.

We think this is a nice blade from 14th century. But to recall its beauty,
re-polishing is necessary. It will cost a lot. Then, we decided to release
it as it is. You can study the details of the activities on the ura side.
We wonder if this is suitable for amateur polishers to practice. You can
study the quality of good koto blade during the work.
