Cheap sword 7
Wakizashi no-signature
Blade length 55.8cm, thickness at the base 8mm, width 3.1cm
This is a wakizashi blade probably from 16th century or so. The blade remains
with the original length, in other words, it is not shortened. The school
or smith name is unknown, since the blade character like this is often
found in various schools in that period.
Steel has a wood grain layer pattern.
Hamon is made of large particles. The pattern is gunome what including
sweeping pattern. Utsuri clearly appears around the start of hamon. But
it is difficult to be taken by our camera.
The polishing is the modern style (hadori style). It is not very fresh,
so the blade surface has some scratches. The hadori work (make-up) is rather
strong. Such a high contrast with black and white color on the blade may
look attractive for beginners' eye. Even if it could be an obstruction
to study the real face of the blade.
Anyway, it is interesting to study the details of the activities on the
blade.
