"Nobuchika"
These tsuba's are made by the present smith Nobuchika, using a Tamahagane and forged by himself. They are made with the same design, but the feeling is a little different.
 
Five Sanskrit letters and swords are cut out. This design is taken from an old tsuba in 14th century. The original was a tsuba for tachi mount, so the design was upside down for katana tsuba.
The rim is made from the edge of the tsuba plate turning it back by hammering. The method was taken in Namboku-cho period and Muromachi period (14th - 16th century).

This tsuba is put on a Katana mount, so the tang hole was reshaped to fit with katana mount.

9.4cm x 9.4cm, thickness of the plate 2mm, at the rim 4mm.

This is put on a tachi mount.

9.1cm x 9.1cm, thickness rim 4mm, centre 3mm


Each of the Sanskrit letters represents one Buddha. They mean the five great Myo'o. Myo'o is one of the forms of Buddha. The swords suggest their power.

Nobuchika of modern steel. He learned with it before making real tsuba.
