Copy of Yamato Hosho style tanto blade what is the shadow project (kage-uchi) for Gotoba
A customer ordered us Yamato Hosho style blade for his hardening challenge. Then, kokaji prepared two blades for the customer to choose one. And this is the spare for that.

Steel construction
Three layer (sandwich) style, but the outer steel has straight layer pattern. => Sample of steel layers
c = core steel, o = outer steel

Core steel
Dense and hard steel pieces are selected, and a little amount of soft steel pieces are added. Then, the core steel is forged out by 12 time foldings. It could be a sharp edge by proper tempering.

Outer steel
Various kinds of steel pieces are forged together and folded 12 times. And then, it is turned 90 degrees to get masame (straight) layer.

The steels are constructed by the sandwich style and drawn out to a log.

Two tanto blades are made out of the steel log. One for the customer's hardening challenge, and the other for kokaji himself. So they are sisters.
