"Umetada Shigenari"

The design is stream and rocks, and it brings a feeling of atmosphere.
The steel is very good. And the engraving is very skilful, especially the surge is. Some gold are left.
I don't understand the meaning of the two holes on the right side. I heard that they are for cord. The cord use to be fastened to scabbard in peaceful days, and done to wrist in battle time. I am not sure with that explanation, but I feel these holes should be important for this tsuba in old days.


"Yamashiro (no) kuni ju" on the right. "Umetada Shigenari" on the left.
Umetada Shigenari lived in Kyoto in middle Edo period (18th century). Then he moved to Edo being employed by Shogun.
